Together with Erik Manders, Marc Vermeulen (1970) is the new face of the training “Design Principles for Precision Engineering.” For his graduation project under Nick Rosielle at the TU Eindhoven, he designed a 3D coordinate measuring machine (3D CMM). He then transformed this design into a prototype 3D CMM during his PhD, in collaboration with the Dutch Metrology Institute (NMi) in Delft and the German CMM manufacturer Carl Zeiss. The concept was subsequently taken into serial production by Zeiss and released in 2004 as the CMM F25.
After his studies, Vermeulen felt that moving to Philips CFT, which was then considered “the Mecca of mechatronics,” was the most logical step. There, he quickly encountered the Design Principles training, which was given by Piet van Rens, and decided to become a co-trainer himself.
In 2007, Vermeulen moved to ASML, where he worked as a system architect on immersion systems, wafer stages, and wafer tables in the following years. Currently, he is involved as a senior principal system architect in various developments within the DUV, EUV, and Applications business lines.
