In 2007, Marleen completed her chemistry studies at the Avans University of Applied Sciences. She followed both the polymer chemistry and organic chemistry module. Her internship was in the field of polymer chemistry at Teijin Aramid and she graduated in Organic Chemistry through an internship at Organon.
Marleen worked in an organic chemistry lab at Symeres (formerly Mercachem) in Nijmegen for 11 years. She worked on various research projects of the pharmaceutical industry. Over the years, she specialised in Medicinal Chemistry.
In 2019, Marleen said the lab farewell to set up the marketing and communication department at the same company. Here, amongst other things, she worked on setting up both the internal and external newsletters, where she regularly wrote the articles herself. Her passion for writing was not new. At the end of 2021, Marleen released her debut novel, a science fiction thriller Schijnsoldaat, via Celtica Publishing. In 2024, the urban fantasy novel The Legacy followed.
In 2024, Marleen said goodbye to Symeres to start her own business. She trained as a core talents analyst, followed a course in ACT for coaching and started as a reintegration coach, specializing in neurodivergence. She is often found by clients with a background in academia or IT.
In 2025, her continued interest in the sciences led her to looking for work in that field again. She found it at Techwatch, amongst others, where she started as a freelance journalist for the technical magazines Bits&Chips and High Tech Systems. Now she divides her working hours between her clients as a coach and writing technical substantive pieces as a freelance journalist. In her spare time, she likes to be with her family, play theatre, study psychology and try out all kinds of creative excesses.
